Keith Jarrett. (Allentown, 1945), es uno de los grandes talentos del jazz surgidos en los últimos treinta años. Capaz de tocar además del piano, la guitarra, el saxo, la flauta, el clavicordio y el órgano, Jarrett destacó desde su infancia por su precocidad y por sus cualidades musicales.
Síntesis biográfica
Inicios
En los años setenta, trabaja dos años con el trompetista, Miles Davis, enfrascado éste, en su etapa de jazz eléctrico, ficha por el vanguardista sello alemán ECM y su debut es el inicio de la carrera exitosa de su discografía. Su primer álbum titulado: "Facing You" es todo un éxito de critica y publico.
El final de la década traería para Keith Jarrett, la grabación del álbum quizás más conocido del pianista. Su "The Köln Concert" fue sin duda uno de los discos de jazz más importantes de los años setenta. Ya a esas alturas tenía consolidado junto con otros jóvenes músicos europeos, una propuesta estética y musical que servía de estandarte del jazz moderno y vanguardista que se alimentaba de muy variadas influencias.
Nada mas terminada su graduación en la Universidad de Berklee en 1962, entró en 1965 en los "Jazz Messengers" del baterista, Art Blakey, con quien permaneció desde 1965 hasta 1966 y posteriormente, ingresó en el grupo del saxofonista, Charles Lloyd con quien estuvo desde 1966 hasta 1969.
La gran experiencia musical que obtuvo con esos dos músicos, le sirvió para formar su propio trío con el contrabajista, Charlie Haden y el baterista, Paul Motian con quien debutaría en el terreno discográfico en 1967 con el disco: "Life Between the Exit Signs". Un disco magnifico que sería el pistoletazo de salida de su espléndida carrera.
Vida personal
La trayectoria de Keith Jarrett durante los últimos veinte años, refleja una pasmosa fidelidad al proyecto iniciado en 1983, cuando grabó sus extraordinarios discos: "Standards. Vol 1"; "Standards. Vol 1" y "Standards Live" junto a Gary Peacock y Jack DeJohnette. Jarrett se puso al frente de un trío convencional para iniciar lo que hoy alcanza dimensiones de enciclopédico homenaje a la tradición jazzistica. El Jarrett pianista, se ha alimentado en las escuelas de Bud Powell y Lennie Tristano, sin excluir la influencia de un Bill Evans siempre presente en sus discos, y se convirtió en modelo de muchos pianistas.
