Harry Seidler

Harry Seidler. Arquitecto australiano de origen austriaco, considerado uno de los máximos exponentes del movimiento moderno en Australia y el primer arquitecto en hablar de los conceptos de la Bauhaus en este país.
Síntesis Biográfica
Nació en Viena, Austria, el 25 de junio de 1923, en el seno de una familia judía. En 1944 estudia Arquitectura en la Universidad de Manitoba, Canadá, asistente de Alvar Aalto en 1945 y en 1946 asiste a la Walter Gropius Masters Class, Universidad de Harvard, EE. UU, en ese mismo año recibe curso de Diseño con Josef Albers en Black Mountain Collage, Carolina del Norte, EE. UU.
Trayectoria
Asistente como Jefe de Marcel Breuer en Nueva York. En los años 1946-1948, en ese mismo año viaja a Brasil y trabaja con Oscar Niemeyer a Río de Janeiro. Ya en 1949 Empieza su actividad privada en Sídney. Se destaca como Miembro honorario del American Institute of Architects (AIA), Pan Pacific Citation, American Institute of Architects (AIA), Life Fellow, Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA) y Officer, Order of British Empire.
Entre los años 1975-1977 como Profesor visitante Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Fall Semester. En 1976 recibe la medalla de oro del Royal Australian Institute of Architects.
En 1978 como Profesor visitante en la Universidad de Columbia Británica, Centre for Human Settlements, Jan, profesor visitante Thomas Jefferson Professor of Architecture, Universidad de Virginia, EE.UU., Fall.y Fellow, Australian Academy of Technological Sciences.
En 1984 es Profesor visitante de la Universidad de Sídney. En 1987 es reconocido con la Órden de Australia y reconocido académico de la International Academy of Architecture, Sofía. Ya en 1988 como Doctor en Leyes por la Universidad de Manitoba, Canadá.
En 1989 obtiene la Medalla de Oro de la Ciudad de Viena, Austria. En la Univ. of Technology, Sídney. Como Profesor visitante E.T.H. Zurich, Suiza. Recibe en 1996 Medalla de Oro del Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). En el 2001 es Miembro Honorario del Israel Institute of Architects and Town Planners, Profesor visitante de la Universidad de Sydney. y recibió Decoration for Services to the Viennese State.
Justo antes de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, cuando Alemania anexionó Austria en 1938, tuvo que huir a Londres. Más tarde, en 1941, emigró a Canadá para alejarse de la guerra, en su diario reflejó este día como el más feliz de su vida.
Fallecimiento
Fallece en Sídney, el 9 de marzo de 2006.
