Herbert Brenon . (13 de enero de 1880 – 21 de junio de 1958) fue un director, guionista y actor cinematográfico estadounidense de origen irlandés, cuya carrera transcurrió en buena parte en los años del cine mudo, Cine Sonoro, autor de numerosos clásicos como Peter Pan, El capitán Sorrell y Beau Geste . Entre otros clásicos.

Síntesis biográfica

Su nombre completo era Alexander Herbert Reginald St. John Brenon, y nació en Dublín, Irlanda. Sus padres eran Edward St. John Brenon, un escritor y crítico teatral, y Frances, una mujer culta, autora de una comedia que más adelante llevó a escena su hijo. Brenon estudió en la St Paul's School y en el King's College de Londres. Inició su carrera artística como director teatral, trabajando en números de vodevil junto a su mujer, Helen Oberg. Comenzó su carrera cinematográfica en Independent Moving Pictures, debutando en 1911 como guionista. Al año siguiente pasó a la dirección, trabajando también como actor. A lo largo de su carrera actuó en 22 filmes, dirigió 128, y escribió el guion de 58. Tuvo la oportunidad de dirigir a intérpretes de la talla de King Baggot, Annette Kellerman, Pola Negri, Ronald Colman, Lon Chaney, Loretta Young, Alice Joyce, Clara Bow, Anna May Wong y Norma Talmadge. Entre sus películas más notables figura Peter Pan (1924), primera adaptación al cine de la obra teatral de J.M. Barrie, Beau Geste (1926), y El capitán Sorrell (1927), film por el cual fue nominado al Oscar al mejor director en 1929. Herbert Brenon falleció en Los Ángeles, California, en 1958, a los setenta y ocho años de edad. Fue enterrado en un mausoleo privado en el Cementerio Woodlawn del Bronx, Nueva York.
